Marine Center breaks ground on PLC

Construction has begun on the much-anticipated Marine Center at The Marina at Puerto Los Cabos. In keeping with its goal to become the premiere yachting facility in Mexico and one of the finest anywhere, Puerto Los Cabos has teamed up with The Marine Group of San Diego, a West Coast industry leader in yacht repairs with a recent emphasis on the growing megayacht market.

“We were delighted when we reached a Joint Venture agreement with Todd Roberts and his team at The Marine Group,” said Marina Manager Jim Elfers. “The ownership at the marina wanted to have not only a first class boatyard but also the first drystack storage yard in all of Mexico, and now we are well on our way. I am convinced that The Marine Group is the perfect partner for us.”

The drystack boat storage is already renting well and will allow owners of smaller boats to lower their maintenance and insurance costs by keeping them in what are essentially huge shelving sytems for boats up to 30 feet in length, stacked up to 3 or 4 levels. Within 15 minutes a huge forklift can pull a boat, launch it, and have it waiting for its owner.

In additition to the drystack the 150-ton TravelLift will be one of only two at this size in the country, able to haul out yachts as big as 110 feet. Todd Roberts at the Marine Group was enthusiastic: “We expect to open in Spring of 2010 and are already receiving great demand for the Drystack storage spaces. And with the big boat repair capability more yachts will be able to stay year-round in Los Cabos and not make the expensive trip for annual maintenance back in San Diego.”

Puerto Los Cabos is one of the largest planned communities in Mexico, encompassing over 2,000 acres with the marina, luxury homesites, and both Nicklaus and Norman Signature golf courses. The marina will eventually have 420 berths for yachts up to 240 feet and is currently operating with 150 slips.
